How it all began
Tiruedel Zenebe is a Canadian-Ethiopian vocalist and cultural ambassador whose music serves as a vibrant bridge between the historic rhythms of Northern Ethiopia and the contemporary sounds of the global diaspora. Currently based in Toronto, Tiruedel has established herself as a vital force in the preservation and evolution of Ethiopian music.

A Musical Lineage
Born in Gondar and raised in the cultural heart of Addis Ababa, Tiruedel was born into a prestigious musical dynasty.
She was heavily influenced by her sister, Mimi Zenebe, and her brother, Derebe Zenebe, a prominent figure known for his mastery of the Gondar and Wollo musical styles.
Her artistic foundation was further shaped by her uncle, the legendary traditional singer and musician Shambel Belayneh.
This deep familial connection to the arts led to early collaborations with her siblings, performing in traditional music clubs across the capital.
This passion for the industry eventually evolved into entrepreneurship; alongside her sister Mimi, Tiruedel owned and operated the renowned “Duka” Traditional Club in the Kazanchis district of Addis Ababa, a hub for authentic Ethiopian sounds.

Artistic Identity & Vision
Tiruedel has developed a unique musical identity that honours the past while embracing the future.
Her work is characterized by a “Modern-Traditional” fusion, allowing her to connect with elders who cherish heritage and younger generations seeking contemporary innovation.
Her performances are defined by:
Modern Evolution: Infusing classic sounds with modern arrangements to reflect the everyday experiences of the Ethiopian people.
Vocal Power: A strong, emotive voice capable of conveying deep storytelling.
Cultural Preservation: A commitment to the traditional melodies and rhythms of Ethiopia.

From Addis Ababa to the Global Stage
Since relocating to Canada, Tiruedel has continued to champion Ethiopian identity through live performances, recordings, and international collaborations.
Whether performing at community festivals, weddings, or grand cultural showcases, her goal remains steadfast: to ensure the beauty of traditional Ethiopian music continues to thrive in a modern world.
